The Issue
Even though Wishard provides exceptional care to the community, its facilities were at risk. These aging buildings needed to be replaced to prevent catastrophic failure in the future, and to allow patients to continue to receive Level 1 care from Wishard. In the next few years, Wishard would have been in such a state of disrepair that it would have had to shut its doors.

Renovation was not an option. Most of Wishard's current structures have inadequate ceiling height to accommodate the ductwork needed for contemporary HVAC mechanical equipment and other utilities. There are numerous physical limitations and inefficiencies. Precious seconds are lost transporting patients the length of three football fields to rooms too small for modern equipment. Currently, too much of Wishard's budget is going toward putting bandages on impossible to fix problems.
